The Mohenjo-Daro Radioactive Skeletons
Mohenjo-Daro is part of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, is located in modern-day Pakistan and its name translates into Mound of the Dead. Discovered in 1922 by an archaeologist who was led to the site by a monk, it is thought to have come into existence around 2,600 BCE and to have ultimately been abandoned, or destroyed, around 1,800 BCE.
Estimated to be one of the largest cities of its time, Mohenjo-Daro is believed to have been home to about 35,000 people. In unearthing the site it was discovered that a very sophisticated plumbing system ran throughout the city. Certain locations contained bathing rooms that appeared to have provided heated water.
In 1927, as excavations of the site continued, 44 human skeletons were found littered all over the streets. Frozen at the time of their deaths, some were found face down and still holding hands. From the manner in which the skeletons were found it appeared as though a great, devastating force had swept across the city and the residents had no warning.
Theories were postulated that the devastation was caused by a nuclear blast of some sort. Theorists allege the explosion in question has an epicenter that measures 150 feet wide and they point to the fact that everything in that particular area had been "crystallized, fused or melted". The skeletons caught in the wake are said to be 50 times more radioactive than what is considered normal.
Those in line with the nuclear bomb theory say the incident was even documented in the ancient Indian text the Mahabharata. They say the text was translated as describing ancient flying machines, known as "vimana", which supposedly deployed their nuclear technology on cities like Mohenjo-Daro.
The Mahabharata apparently goes on to document the technology and its effects. It is said the text describes the blasts brightness, its mushroom cloud of fire and smoke, the shockwave, the victims and even radiation poisoning.
